Presented by the ISBA Family Law Section and the Standing Committee on Military Affairs
Although every jurisdiction in the U.S. has established legal standards for the determination of child custody and family law issues that practitioners are familiar with, very few of those practitioners have any meaningful experience, information about or familiarity with aspects of military service and its impact on divorce, child custody, and parenting. Too often, custody litigation involves a service member returning from deployment to be faced with psychological evaluations and other investigations at a time when they are least prepared and under great stress. Join us for a better understanding of how military service impacts the intact family, as well as the insights you need on child custody considerations in military service cases. Child law attorneys, military lawyers, and family law practitioners who attend this seminar will: - better understand the role that the military service plays in family law cases;
- get helpful information regarding the benefits available to service members and their families;
- discover how service-related disabilities – such as post traumatic stress disorder – can affect parenting and custody issues;
- learn the methodology of a custody evaluation; and
- receive best practice tips for representing service members in the family law courts.

Presented by the ISBA Education Law and Child Law Sections on 5/14/12 as part of the Education Law Jump Start: A Primer and Update for New (and not so new) Attorneys
Freedom of Speech, separation of church and state, search and seizure, and the right to a public education are all constitutional rights granted to American citizens. For students, however, some of these rights are limited, making it difficult for school districts to know where to draw the line. Gain a better understanding of how students' rights are limited once they step through the schoolhouse gates, and how to advise school districts so they can effectively uphold students' limited rights without crossing the line.

Presented by the ISBA Administrative Law Section, the Young Lawyers Division, the General Practice Section, and the Government Lawyers Section on 6/6/12
Increase your familiarity with procedures before administrative agencies and
enhance your ability to deal with a variety of administrative hearing issues!
Practitioners are not always well-versed with administrative hearing procedures and the rights their clients may have in cases before administrative agencies. Likewise, administrative law judges are not as conversant as they should be with the administrative framework they operate under. Get the best practice tips you need for the successful prosecution, defense, and decision-making processes in administrative law cases with the information provided in this seminar. Administrative law judges and attorneys who practice before administrative law agencies will benefit from the relevant topics covered, including subpoena issues, the right to cross-examine witnesses, and procedural requirements. The program includes a mock hearing in which our administrative law judges play the roles of attorneys prosecuting and defending a case, while an administrative law judge presides at the hearing.

New laws were implemented on July 1, 2012 that affect all elder law and estate planning attorneys in Illinois - are you up to date? Illinois attorneys need to be aware of the dramatic changes taking place to the Illinois Medicaid rules! Join us from the comfort of your home or office for this informative panel discussion that examines the new Medicaid rules. Topics include: the Deficit Reduction Act (DRA), the Save Medicaid Access and Resources Together (SMART) Act, and the new Policy Manual that governs Medicaid eligibility. Because these rules affect almost every senior citizen in Illinois facing long-term care issues, it is imperative that elder law attorneys, estate planning practitioners and any lawyer who deals with aging clients stay apprised of the new rules.
